Sainik School Medical Test Standards: Eye Power, Height & Weight Chart
Qualifying in the AISSEE written examination is only the first step. Final admission into any Sainik School across India is contingent upon clearing the comprehensive medical examination conducted by a designated Military Hospital Board.
Every year, several brilliant candidates face rejection or temporary disqualification due to easily preventable or correctable conditions (such as ear wax, mild knock-knees, or overweight issues). This guide explains the key medical checkpoints every parent should inspect in advance.
1. Visual Standards (Eye Power Criteria)
- Distant Vision: Better eye must be 6/6; worse eye can be 6/9, correctable with spectacles up to 6/6.
- Permissible Myopia / Hypermetropia: Myopia not exceeding -1.5D and Hypermetropia not exceeding +1.5D (including cylindrical power).
- Color Vision: Standard CP-III (Color Perception III). Candidates suffering from complete color blindness are declared unfit.
- Squint (Strabismus): Squint or any morbid condition of the eye or lids constitutes permanent unfitness.
2. Orthopedic & Skeletal Checks
The military medical board performs rigorous physical body checks for anatomical deformities:
- Knock Knees (Genu Valgum): When standing with knees touching, the distance between medial malleoli (inner ankles) must not exceed 5 cm. Many early cases in young children can be corrected through tailored exercises.
- Flat Foot (Pes Planus): The foot must demonstrate a natural longitudinal arch when bearing body weight.
- Bow Legs (Genu Varum): Significant bowing of the legs is a disqualifier.
- Carrying Angle of Elbows: Normal carrying angle must be between 10° to 15° for boys. Angle exceeding 20° is unfit.
3. Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT)
- Ear Wax: Ears must be cleaned of wax prior to the medical board. Impacted wax causes temporary rejection.
- Tympanic Membrane (Eardrum): No perforation or discharge in either ear.
- Deviated Nasal Septum (DNS): Severe DNS impeding free breathing requires pre-assessment.
4. Dental Standards
Candidates must possess at least 14 dental points out of 22 with healthy teeth, well-formed gums, and no active dental caries or severe malocclusion.
