Sainik School vs RMS vs RIMC: Complete Comparison Guide for Parents
Parents aspiring to see their child become a commissioned officer in the Indian Army, Navy, or Air Force often face a critical dilemma: Which defence residential school is best?
While all three institutions—Sainik Schools, Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS), and the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC)—feed directly into the National Defence Academy (NDA), they differ dramatically in terms of intake size, controlling authorities, admission age, fee structures, and competition levels.
1. Quick Comparison Matrix

2. The Verdict: Which One Should You Target?
If your child is in Class 4 or 5: Target both Sainik School (AISSEE) and Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS CET). The syllabus overlaps by nearly 90%, allowing students to prepare for both exams simultaneously.
If your child is in Class 6 or 7: Prepare for RIMC Dehradun. Because Odisha has only 1 allocated seat per term, clearing RIMC is the gold standard of academic and physical achievement.
